The median Shopify store converts 1.4% of sessions into orders. The top 20% reach 2.6% and the top 10% 3.4%, according to Littledata's benchmark of 421 Shopify stores over the 90 days to September 26, 2026. So if your store sits between 1% and 2%, you are normal, and the question is which part of the funnel has the most room.

Source: Littledata, 421 Shopify stores, June 29 to September 26, 2026. Consumable, repeat-purchase products convert higher; expensive, considered purchases such as furniture convert lower. Compare yourself with your own category, not the global number.
By device
In the same dataset, mobile and desktop medians are both about 1.5%, but the best desktop stores reach 5.2% against 3.9% on mobile. Most traffic is mobile, so a page that only looks good on desktop leaves most of the upside on the table.
How to calculate yours
Conversion rate = orders / sessions x 100. 60 orders from 4,000 sessions is 1.5%. Shopify shows this in Analytics as "Conversion rate" together with the funnel: sessions with add to cart, reached checkout and completed.
Read the funnel, not only the final number. It tells you where the loss happens:
- Few add to carts: the product page does not convince. See add to cart rate benchmarks and fixes.
- Many carts, few checkouts: shipping costs, delivery times or trust at the cart stage.
- Many checkouts, few orders: payment options, forced account creation, surprise fees.
Why your number may look worse than it is
- Traffic mix: cold social traffic converts far lower than email or returning visitors. A new ad campaign can drop the store-wide rate while bringing more orders. Our landing page benchmarks break this down by source.
- Bots and internal sessions inflate sessions and lower the rate.
- Small samples: with 300 sessions a month, one order moves the rate by 0.3 points. Judge over at least 30 days.
What actually moves conversion rate
- A clear product page above the fold: what it is, for whom, price and the main proof.
- Honest, visible shipping costs and delivery dates before the cart.
- Reviews with specifics and photos from buyers.
- Fast mobile pages and a simple checkout with express payment options.
- Traffic that matches the page: the ad's promise and the page's first screen should say the same thing.
The fastest way to find the leak on your own page is to watch real or simulated buyers read it. PageJury gives you a panel of AI buyer personas who explain where they hesitate; see a sample report.

FAQ
What is a good conversion rate for Shopify?
Above 2.6% puts you in the top 20% of Shopify stores in Littledata's 2026 benchmark; above 3.4% in the top 10%.
Is a 1% conversion rate bad?
It is below the 1.4% median but common for new stores, expensive products and cold traffic. Look at the funnel to see where buyers drop.
Why do other sites quote 2.5% to 3%?
Different datasets. Some averages include large brands and all platforms, or count only certain traffic. Medians from a defined set of stores, like Littledata's, are a fairer comparison for a typical Shopify shop.
